Landscape Escapes

Soft Pastel is often a fan favorite: it's messy, powdery and fun to work with. Combine the chalky medium with landscapes and you have a jackpot! Landscapes have a way of taking us to a place for limitless escapes. If you love a place, memorialize it at home on your wall. For this project, students were asked to use an image from a scene they visited and recreate it. Each landscape was created using a photograph the students took and a memory they held dear. Through this project, students learned how to create a sense of space through controlling colors and varying their marks to reflect each surface's texture. They were encouraged to move color around as if it were a painting and to use a variety of marks just like a brush would create. The results were these breathtaking landscape escapes.
