"GREAT THINGS ARE DONE BY A SERIES OF SMALL THINGS BROUGHT TOGETHER”  -Georges Seurat

These gorgeous landscapes were inspired by French Post-Impressionist Georges Seurat and his famous painting Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The students first learned about Seurat’s childhood and all-too-brief adult life, studied his style of art, and then analyzed the colors and subject matter he used in his paintings before they began their project. By creating their own interesting landscapes that included a foreground, middle ground, and background, students were able to incorporate the placement of objects to create cast shadows and then used fine tipped colored markers and a labor intensive approach to fill the entire paper with beautiful dots of warm and cool colors to show light and shadows. These wonderful pieces represent the results of the hard work each artist did as they were challenged to engage a tremendous amount of focus, refine their fine motor skills, and apply creative critical thinking skills to complete these colorful works of art.
