For this project, students were asked to choose an animal from the Amazon and create a metal relief by pressing on it from both sides to make parts pop out or sink back into the surface. Once that was complete, they were asked to Mat it on a black sheet of paper and draw the animal in its natural environment with color pencil. This was a difficult project because students had to learn how to draw gently with color pencils going from dark to light as well as combine different mediums in one project. They were expected to master various 2d and 3d techniques and did so with gusto. If you look closely, these pieces feel as though the animals are hidden deeply in the dark jungle. These students tackled this project with enthusiasm!
